Sounds like you have a pretty nice setup. I had big plans for my stereo and orders some Polks for the dash openings and installed them. Then I let that issue of getting the car all back together get in the way while I was restoring it. I have been driving with those dash speakers and nothing else since then. I had big ideas about the stereo but usually when I am out in the 70, I don't care about listening to the radio anyway. I like the way the car sounds and just listen to it. I may one day finish it up. |

I just have a Kenwood 200 watt CD/Tuner and pioneer 6x9 three ways in the back and two ways in the dash. Seems like the stereo is a secondary concern when cruising around anyway. Especially if you have a tough sounding exhaust. |

I've just have the two stock speakers replaced with some 2 way kenwoods and a kenwood mp3/cd player. I was wondering where you guys would suggest maybe putting some 6x9's. I had thought also about, maybe some kick panels, but the inside is so crammed I don't know what to do with the audio. I ended up using that setup in a 71 Vette because of the limited cargo space and installed a pair of MB quart components in the kick panels with a 4 channel amp. I used the 2 front channels for the components and bridged the rear to push both subs. It was a simple setup that sounded great and hit pretty hard. If you have pic's of your audio system post them |

The 6 x 9's are just the $25 enclosures at BestBuy though they were in the car when I bought it and I used Loctite Power grabber adhesive to attach them to the roof of the back storage area, with a pvc pipe I cut to length which applied pressure, let it sit for 24 hours and haven't had any problems at all. The Kick panel Kenwoods are 6.5" with a 1" tweeter. I didn't think to take pics during the install but I put the crossover behind and up above the speaker in the kick panel. They fit in nicely, all I had to cut out was the interior trim panel and put a screw hole for the tweeter. The drivers side I didn't think about it but got lucky with the hood release lever, it just cleared. All in all these made a huge difference in sound since before there was some 4x6" and the rear's really overpowered them volume wise but now I have to turn the fronts down 1 or 2 numbers on the fader so well worth doing |

I have a "whole bunch" of really great looking stereo "stuff" in the 79 I just purchased and have no idea what it does!! I will have to figure out the darn thing...no manuals came with it!!! A giant black box with speakers sitting in the rear compartment with a great looking amp mounted on it and lots & lots of wires!! It has a detachable face cd stereo in the console with lots & lots of buttons!!!  When I turn it on it just has a lot of static!!!  I just want the original am/fm stereo back!!! lol Anyone wanna trade me for a stock am/fm/cb?  |

After installing an Alpine head unit, 2-way Pioneer 4x6 's behind the kick panels (I thought that's all that would fit) and a prefab 6 speaker panel (to save space) on the storage back wall, I found there was not enough bass. So i installed a free standing powered subwoofer from Sound Ordinance. It's more than enough when I want hella bass and the other speakers (not amp'd), chime in with good mid and high range. I am now very happy with the quality and quantity of the music which can actually drown out the sweet sound of the L-82 with headers. In a couple of weeks, I look forward to rev'ing up the noise competition with a comp cam thumper and edelbrock performer intake. Might have to add more speakers, lol... |

You'll need to add more speakers, bigger mufflers and more amps the Thumpr is accurately named and it will double your exhaust system noise level and reduce your stereo volume by half, well so I've heard |

I had a NEW NOS AM/FM stocker in a new NOS gauge Bezel,but wanted to have a CD capibility. I picked up a JVC KDA-615 that Crutchfields had ONSALE, and a New replica Gauge bezeld that I could cut on to accept a DIN1 size. (Didn't want to trash original parts). Used the 79 shop maual to ID the wiring pinouts for the power and front/back speakers and installed that. The front already had SONY 2 way speakers installed, but the rear still has the stockers installed. I'll be swapping them out soon. Nothing real fancy but with a CD and USB access (plus other options), it makes things nice. I can even change the color display lighting to 29 possible color combo's). With the T tops off and running Hooker side pipes, I kind of have to keep it a bit cranked to hear real well. Then again the exhaust notes are music to my ears.. |

Hey Palm beach where did that plate for your radio come from is it from the radio or did you purchase it separately? it was in the car when I got it but someone cut the factory console to fit the single din radio. What you see is a thin piece of metal covering the factory set up and it curves on each end making up the gap. I've seen this in other cars so it may be something car audio installers keep on hand, since it's my best guess that the previous owner of my car went to a shop and bought the stereo and had it installed. |
