If you are getting a whining noise when accelerating or if the car is off and you just have the keys turned to the on position it could mean a few things.  First you may have a bad ground.  The next thing to check is to see if you have any wires that have the insulation cut, broken, or frayed.  It is a pain staking process. You need to check not only the power, ground, remote, constant wires, but all of the speaker wires and RCA wires as well.  Any of these wires will cause feedback on your speakers.

One of my old jobs was car audio and alarms.  If you don't have time to check all of the wires, most car audio places will do it for you from $50 to $100 bucks.  I would take it to a local car audio shop, not a big retailer like Best Buy.  Larger stores like Best Buy will charge way too much and have poor quality service.  I would not buy a noise suppressor, they never seem to work 100%

One last thing I forgot to mention.  If you have the original factory antenna wire, it's time to replace it.  It took me an hour or so to replace the on on my 72 corvette.
