door locks

Was going to simply remove and replace the door locks on my wifes 74 all went well until I shut the door. The door won't open back up, handle is stuck half way down can't even open from the inside. The door lock is not feeling like it is engaging when turning the key. Not real sure what to do now, I would appreciate any help on trying to get this door open.
