i recently aquired 74 has all orig, parts and all the numbers match
and has 62k miles, but its current state is running and driving but looks terrible inside and out
im going to have to almost completely redo the interior, which is blue
and paint it, numbers say that is also blue
both factory colors i just dont like, id rather go black on black,
i plan to keep it for a little while, but i dont know how much id be losing in originality and price
if i painted it my colors and not the factory originals
any comments are appreciated

I would determine why I want the car - for fun and driving or for investment and restoration.  Should you choose to be like many of us, DRIVE THE THING!!! HAve fun with it and enjoy it - make it yours. Paint it the way you want.  Same with the interior.  If you are concern about value, keep the original parts and either change it back when you go to sell it or pass on the basket of parts to the next guy.  I am not an expert, but life is too short to drive ugly cars.  Just saying.

From what I've seen through auctions and general corvette sales 1974  was the beginning of the middle 70's decline in corvette values in the current market since the chrome bumpers were gone, emissions were being installed and performance was on the decline. With that said I would think a color change wouldn't hurt the value too much and will be greater enjoyment and value to you, might even make you want to keep the car longer than you may think. As far as your color choice I can personally vouch for black on black. I replaced my interior last year and within the last week finished a paint color change from red to black.

Link to my thread on the color change and what I did, hope it might help.

If it is a high quality job, I really don't think it is going to make a too much of a difference in value, unless you have a super options on the car.

I have 72 standard coupe that was painted black from the dealer because black was not an option in 72 (very common actually). I repainted it black because it looks great on a c3 and I plan on keeping a while.

Enjoy it!
