I don't own a Corvette, but I bought what I believe to be a C3 rear end recently.  It had been installed on a 28-29 Ford and the owner was planning to use a different rear end.  I think it's from a 81-83 model because it has 13" long half shafts and a fiberglass monoleaf spring.

What issues, if any, should I look for?  I have read one post on another site that stated "I don't know why anyone would use a C3 rear end in their hot rod."  Was this statement just hot air or should I know something that I obviously do not know?

I appreciate any advice you may offer.

OK, so maybe there are no issues.

Has anyone ever tried to modify their c3 rear end to include upper control arms, as found on the c4 rear end, in addition to the original lower control arms?

I think the only concern would be the amount of power that the C3 rear ends can handle before failure. The 80-82 rear ends should be a Dana 60 which is a little more stout but was designed for the 210 horsepower engine so that could be the concern people have for using it in a street rod. Most people want the benefit of the independent suspension for ride and handling.

As far as upper control arms, I've never seen it done. Not so say someone hasn't tried just never seen it.

Thanks for the reply, palmbeachvette.  I do not expect to have a high-horsepower powerplant in my car, so the 210 hp stock configuration should not be a concern.
