I've got the stock Quadrajet on my 72, 350 small block, with the stock intake.  It seems to be very finicky, and likes to flood on me.  I've had it rebuilt, and I know they can run great at times, but I am wanting something more reliable.  I've also got the stock hood, so space is always an issue.  What are you guys running on your cars? and post some pics if you have any.

I run an Edelbrock intake and carb. My old holley carb gave way about 6 years ago and replaced all with Edelbrock. Here's some photos from my engine swap......

I just put a Perf RPM on my L-82 with a Holley 3310.  By using a drop base and K&N Xtreme filter top with 2 inch round filter, it fit under the stock vette hood (Summit and Edelbrock both said an RPM won't fit).  I took the cool air controller out of the hood to allow full time cowl air induction for the filter top and do not expect any air flow issues.

Hey vetteonr, do you have the model numbers of your intake and carb so I can look them up.

The carb is model #1406 600 cfm with an electric choke. I'm not sure of the model # of the intake, but it was the "performer" model for the chevy 350.

I'm with vettonr.I have a performer intake with the Edelbrock carb(1406).I feel the all-out power may be down slightly, due to being a smaller carb, but drivability around town is much better.I don't keep tabs on gas mileage ,but know it is better with the edelbrock as the Quadrajet was in rough shape.Just looked under the hood and I'll be dipped if I can  find a part# on the performer manifold.I use use the drop base air cleaner and no hood problems. Also installed a Summit HEI distributor and sure that helped also.I can post pics ,but it's pretty much the same stuff. Now,with all that said, the alleged "experts" I've read say a properly rebuilt Quadrajet will out perform any other carb. I may test that theory  sometime, but other stuff to get to first.Rick

I'm not worried about the top end performance as much as I'm worried about stopping in somewhere, getting back in the car, and it not wanting to fire up.  You loose cool points on your car when it doesn't start and you have a crowd of people checking it out  Grin

Mine looks like the 2701 non EGR. Both that and the carb have been great.

Here's a photo of it when I put it on my old engine.......

A Q-Jet that's flooding after it's been running and then shut off sounds to me like a float that's saturated with fuel, or the fuel pump is putting out it's full rated pressure and holding it. When you shut it off, the pressure in the line will increase because of heat soaking and could force fuel past the needle and seat in the carb. I'd bet on the float.

You can't beat a quadrajet that is set up right. Mine has been on my 77 for 18 years and I have never had to touch it.

i really like the quadrajet, when it runs there is nothing like it, i would love to find one at a reasonable price, i have a edelbrock on my vette now, and when i bought the car it had alot of problems, i do have it fixed now but i would prefer the quadrajet, WOW how responsive, want to trade.

I did find the problem with it.  Last week I replaced the fuel filter.  It's an after market one and it had a bad seal.  I got a new one at auto zone and it's running like a champ right as of now.
