I took it to a shop I've used for about 15 years,, great guy's,, after getting it unloaded I helped witht he tear down as much as they would let me & man was the timing chain flat wore out,,, I've never seen that much slack in a timing chain & it not have jumped. You could almost push it to the other side. The cylinder walls looked very good for an engine with 150K miles & barely any ridge other than carbon build up. It will most likely only take .020" to clean up. I'm going .030" just for good measure. I found a set of 3973487X heads out of Dallas & got very lucky the guy had to make a trip to Houston. So for $50 I couldn't pass them up. According to the guy who does the heads they looked as though they've barely been touched as far as surfacing goes. Tomorrow I should know more.

Good Lord, where have you been lol I was gonna put out a BOLO on you but glad to see your still alive. Weren't you suppose to have been done sometime around New Year's Eve lol  j/k patience is a virtue and I hear it makes engines perform and last longer too.

Not cold at all, nice comfortable 73 now at 9:45 pm but I hear there is a cool front coming tomorrow, but I'll wait and feel it before I believe it

I feel real bad for you getting those heads at that price!  $50.00!  Man! You might feel awfully guilty for stealing them!  LOL!  Good job man!  Let us know how it goes!

Hey all,,, GOT THE MOTOR PICKED UP TODAY WOO HOO,,, just wish I was ready to put it back in LOL. Between work & a demanding GF I've not had much time to prep the engine compartment. Now I may have to do the minimum so I can enjoy the car again. Can't wait to see how much better it's going to run.

Yep got a deal on those heads. The engine shop said they were in great shape. They replaced the exhaust seats with upgraded hard seats, all new valves, springs to match the cam, retainers etc. The intake seats were barely worn Smiley I did some porting myself but just a tad. I'm soooo pumped,,, the GF is going to have to take a back seat for a bit. It'll be getting really cold here in a short time & I want this thing back in before then. I can do the little stuff while it's cold & be ready for the spring fling that are just around the corner.

Thanks for all the support,,, it does help keep me motivated. BIG SMILE Smiley

I'll get photos of the engine up this weekend time permitting.

On another note!!!! Where would I find a good set of headers that will work with the manual transmission & not interfere with the Z bar to the clutch??? Maybe I'll put some on,,,, okay,,, that should not be hard to decide LOL

Welp,,, ran into another issue,,, the oil pump pick up tube the builder supplied doesn't fit properly,,, arrrgg,,, hopefully the one from the parts store will,,, had to order it in & should be able to pick it up this afternoon. I've had some serious problems finding a rebuilt power steering pump that has the correct reservior. Soooo,,, may just rebuild this one. It has a leak but I don't know from where,,, it's not from the shaft area??? Next I need to find proper length push rod's & I can button up the top end. It's funny how when you get a head of steam going, one little thing can bring it all to a halt LOL,,, patience is key for sure Smiley

Yep, if it ain't one thing it's another. Planning helps so much but the unforeseen is just that. I guess it helps keep things interesting.

As far as headers. Next week I'll have a set of 2 year old ceramic coated Hooker Super comps off of my car hanging around. I ordered a set of stainless side pipes that should be here Monday and as long as everything goes according to plan I'll probably be looking to find the old headers a new home.

It does make it interesting & frustrating at the same time,,, but what fun LOL.. Picked up the new tube & it went in perfectly Smiley BIG SMILE,,, tomorrow depending on time hopefully I'll get the bottom end buttoned up & flip it to start the top end. Dude,,, snap a photo of those headers,,, might just make the decision an easy one. Only question would be,,,, are they for a 4 speed car & will clear the clutch bar? I've heard there is a difference. Now to get ready to take the GF to a movie. Priorities you know LOL.
Later,

Yes, those would be the ones. Oh, wait. let's take a look at them off the car as of today.

According to Summitracing they work for your car with manual trans. The orange on the collectors is Copper permatex. I didn't clean these so you could see them as is. There is some rust on the right side which I didn't see until they were removed. The right header also had header wrap on the collector are since my auto trans lines were sitting on the headers. Up to you if this is something your interested in, if not I understand.

The part number it 2456 Hooker Headers (Holley)

Okay all,,, here's where I'm at with the rebuild to date. The motor just about ready to go on the test stand. The valves have been pre-set, the intake is on, the water pump, next the valve covers. After it's on the stand I'll attach the gages & pre-run the oil pump with a primer shaft, plug in the distributor, set timing & fire it up. Hopefully I can get some video to post on you tube. That is if nothing blows up LOL. But that too would make for good video,,, for you guy's ha ha ha

Here's a photo of it now on the engine stand. Just a little bit more to do.
