I JUST REPLACED MY SI ALTERNATOR WITH A CS ALTERNATOR ALONG WITH THE PROPER CONVERSION HARNESS FROM NAPA ON MY 71. THE MAIN CHARGE WAS EASY TO FOLLOW AS I REPLACED IT WITH A 6 GA. FINE WIRE CABLE THAT LOOKED TO GO TO THE HORN RELAY. FROM THERE I'M NOT SURE IF THE CHARGE WIRE GOES TO THE BATT. TERM. ON THE STARTER OR TO THE FUSE PANEL. I PLAN TO REPLACE THE CHARGE WIRES WITH 8 GA. FINE STRAND IF POSSIBLE. ANYBODY DONE THIS CONVERSION?  THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE.

On my '68 and '71 the horn relay is the junction of three individual 10 gauge red wires.  One goes to the alternator, one goes to the starter, and one goes to the fuse block.

toobroketoretire is correct in that the red wires going to the horn relay and starter should be #10.  In Wire sizing, #6 then #8 are larger than the #10 and will carry more current. However the size of the fuse will determine how much current the wire will actually carry.
It does not make any difference if the wires are solid or stranded, they both can carry the same current. The only difference is their flexibility and thus routing through the car.
